What Is A Clairvoyant?

The term ‘clairvoyance’ comes from two French words that, when combined, mean ‘clear vision’. Clairvoyance does not have to involve literally seeing something, but it can involve hallucinations or seeing within the mind’s eye.
Despite the reference to sight in the term, it usually refers to the ability to gain information through any of the five senses humans possess (hearing, sight, touch, smell, taste). It is considered a form of extra-sensory perception. Clairvoyant people can determine information about people, things, places and events from the past, present and future.
A clairvoyant should have a clear picture of something in their mind and be able to describe it.
Many clairvoyants will experience different senses during a reading beyond sight. They may see an instant flash of color or feel that they are in a certain location for a split second. Some clairvoyants experience different physical feelings and sensations through touch. The touch may tell them something about a person or place. Others obtain information through sounds, which may not literally come through the ears but can be heard inside of the mind.
Some people with clairvoyance claim to hear the voices of dead people or spirits giving them messages, and some will say that they are sent odors. They can smell something from the past or future that can be transferred into a meaningful message. Clairvoyants may just feel that they are instantly given knowledge from within or have the ability to just know information without ever having read or heard about it in the past.
The way clairvoyance is used depends on the particular person. Some clairvoyants claim to experience random sensations and messages. Others claim that they can control the time and place they pick up on the sensations. Some clairvoyants use their abilities to discover events that have previously occurred or will occur sometime in the future.
Some clairvoyants also refer to themselves as a psychic or medium; they communicate with spirits and often relay messages to those still living. There are many shops set up by clairvoyants to provide personal readings. They advertise themselves as being able to help people with decisions, pass on messages or to learn more about the people, places and events in their lives.
During a reading, the clairvoyant should be able to provide a sense of validation. Many see this as evidence, or proof, that the reader is indeed clairvoyant. In order to do this, the clairvoyant should be able to make readings about the client’s past and present. This makes it more likely for a client to believe the clairvoyant’s readings about the future. They can use the past to demonstrate that they have validity.
They may do this by describing a sensation or feeling that somebody experienced before they died or they may claim that they were sent a visual message from somebody. If somebody in the client’s family died after experiencing a stomach ailment, the clairvoyant may feel a sudden pain in the stomach. The client may have once had surgery on his or her knee, and the clairvoyant may feel a strong urge to touch the knee or a sudden image of a knee in the mind.
Despite many similarities to other similar fields, clairvoyance is not neither identical nor mutually exclusive to other types of paranormal communication. Many people believe that clairvoyants speak to ghosts, can see the future and read minds. This is not necessarily true, however. While some clairvoyants may also claim to be telepaths, they are not the same.
Telepathy involves the transference of information from mind to mind; it’s what most would call mind reading. Because clairvoyants receive their information from sensory and external items, it is not the same thing. It is also different from being just a psychic, though a psychic may also be a clairvoyant.
A clairvoyant is not necessarily a fortune teller, though many clairvoyants claim to be able to pass on information from and about the future. A medium is a person who believes to be communicating with spirits of the dead, but not all clairvoyants are mediums. There is an intersection between the different abilities but there does not have to be. Every clairvoyant is slightly different in the sensory information they can pass on.
